The tests performed on a 42-year-old woman was found to have a large number of polyps in the large intestine (colon) and some of these polyps had the potential to turn into cancer. For this reason, it was decided to remove the portion of the large intestine with polyps.
Thanks to the facilities provided by the Mogadishu Somali Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan Training and Research Hospital, it was decided that this operation performed with closed method. On 12.06.2018, Laparoscopic (closed) operation was performed on the patient by Associated Prof. Ömer Topuz, Specialist Dr. Cumhur Çakır and Yusuf Çelikörs. After the laparoscopic (closed) surgery the patient recovered quickly because of a fewer incision. On the third day of surgery, the patient started to eat and drink and was discharged on the fifth day. Thus, for the first time in Somalia, closed intestine surgery was successfully performed.
