About the Clinic

Neurosurgery Clinic

The Neurosurgery Clinic functions as the Level 3 Referral Center in Somalia. Our clinic employs 2 specialist physicians and 3 resident physicians (1 resident is continuing their training in Turkey as part of a rotation). Our clinic is the only Neurosurgery clinic in Somalia that provides residency training.

The clinic currently has an active capacity of a 24-bed ward and Adult and Pediatric Intensive Care Units (ICU).

Surgical Services

Our focus is on performing complex and specialized surgical procedures on the brain and spine.

Scope of Surgical Interventions:

Trauma: Treatment of head and spinal cord injuries.

Neuro-Oncology: Removal of brain and spinal tumors.

Vascular: Repair of aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations (AVMs), and stroke treatment.

Spine Surgery: Treatment of degenerative spinal conditions (e.g., disc herniations), spinal trauma, and spinal tumors.

Pediatric Neurosurgery: Treatment of spina bifida, craniosynostosis, Chiari malformation, hydrocephalus (VP shunt), and tethered cord syndrome.

Non-Surgical Management

Conservative Care: Offering conservative management options such as coordinating medications, steroid injections, and physical therapy before recommending surgery.

Emergency and Critical Care

Emergency Coverage: Providing 24/7 on-call coverage for life-threatening neurosurgical emergencies, including severe head trauma, intracranial hemorrhages, and acute spinal cord compression.

Postoperative and Critical Care: Managing patients in the recovery room, general neurosurgery wards, and the ICU; ensuring continuous neurological monitoring and critical life support.

Our Neurosurgery Department is dedicated to restoring and preserving neurological function by combining expert surgical skills, state-of-the-art technology, and compassionate patient-centered care. We also maintain our identity as a training clinic that provides high-quality residency education in the field of neurosurgery
