Orthopedics and Traumatology Clinic

The Orthopedics and Traumatology Clinic is a tertiary-level orthopedic surgery and trauma referral center for the region. Our clinic is staffed by four specialist physicians and eight resident physicians (one resident physician is currently continuing training in Türkiye as part of a rotation program). The clinic holds the distinction of being the only Orthopedics and Traumatology clinic in Somalia that provides resident training.

The clinic actively utilizes inpatient wards, operating rooms, and wound care–casting–splinting units. Emergency outpatient services, trauma management, and surgical interventions are provided continuously, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Orthopedics and Traumatology Outpatient Clinic

The Orthopedics and Traumatology Outpatient Clinic is a reference unit that delivers modern diagnostic, treatment, and follow-up services for musculoskeletal system disorders. Services are provided across multiple subspecialties, including trauma, sports injuries, arthroplasty, arthroscopy, pediatric orthopedics, hand surgery, foot and ankle surgery, and spinal disorders.

Daily outpatient services include clinical examinations, referrals for diagnostic imaging, conservative treatment applications, and surgical planning. A comprehensive and patient-centered approach is adopted by our specialist physicians and experienced allied healthcare personnel to ensure fast, reliable, and evidence-based healthcare services.

Emergency Services

The Orthopedics and Traumatology Clinic provides uninterrupted 24-hour services to trauma patients presenting to the hospital’s Emergency Department. Emergency services are delivered by specialist physicians and resident physicians in accordance with principles of rapid assessment, accurate diagnosis, and effective treatment.

Emergency Orthopedic Services Include:

  • Trauma and fracture management: Initial evaluation and stabilization of open and closed fractures, dislocations, and multiple trauma cases

  • Emergency surgical interventions: Management of compartment syndrome, emergency reductions, external fixation applications, and urgent osteosynthesis procedures

  • Soft tissue injuries: Emergency repair or management of tendon, nerve, and vascular injuries

  • Pediatric orthopedic emergencies: Epiphyseal injuries, supracondylar humerus fractures, and developmental emergency conditions

  • Infectious emergencies: Evaluation of suspected septic arthritis and osteomyelitis

The clinic works in close coordination with the Radiology, Anesthesiology, and Intensive Care Units during the diagnostic process of emergency trauma patients and applies multiple trauma protocols when necessary. The primary goal is rapid stabilization, timely initiation of appropriate treatment, and reduction of complication risks.

Orthopedics and Traumatology Operating Room Services

The Orthopedics and Traumatology Clinic plays a key role among the hospital’s surgical departments, providing a broad range of surgical services in trauma surgery, sports surgery, arthroplasty, pediatric orthopedics, and hand surgery. Modern surgical techniques are applied by experienced orthopedic surgeons and resident physicians undergoing training.

Patients are evaluated under emergency and elective surgery categories, and all procedures are performed in compliance with sterilization and patient safety standards. The operating room team consists of orthopedic surgeons, anesthesiologists, operating room nurses, and technical staff. All orthopedic procedures are carried out in accordance with current guidelines and international standards. Additionally, 24-hour emergency surgical services are available for trauma patients.
